He'd spent years helping people capture life's best moments at GoPro. But something was missing. We capture everything on tiny screens, yet our best memories happen on the big ones.. outdoor movie nights in the backyard or at camp, backyard game days, Monday night football against the garage door, the rooftop patio, those magical moments when a wall becomes a window to another world.That's when Paul met Kody Amburgey, a serial entrepreneur who'd already taken multiple companies from zero to millions.Together, they saw what everyone else missed: Projectors aren't just about watching. They're about transforming any space into an experience.Already HappeningWe're Not Building a Product. We're Building a Movement.In just 12 months, over 6,000 families have transformed their homes, vans, and backyards into personal theaters. Parents are turning bedtime into adventures with ceiling projections. Teachers are making walls come alive with lessons. RV travelers are creating drive-in theaters wherever they park.The numbers tell the story:$1.4M+ in revenue in our first year 20 months6,000 units sold before we even had Google TV1,000 Lumi Max Units sold first 3 months since launch in Sept 25'But here's what the numbers don't show..The dad who told us his kids now beg for "movie night under the stars."The college student whose dorm room became the social hub of the floor.The van-lifer who said Lumi "made my 60 square feet feel like 600."Watch our Lumi Max Launch VideoTraction & PartnershipsWhen the SEC, Valero, and the Philadelphia Phillies All Want the Same Thing, You Know You're Onto SomethingMajor enterprises don't bet on maybes.They invested in Lumi because they believe, like we do, that big-screen magic belongs everywhere — not confined to one room."Our SEC partnership alone validated our vision with a $330K order and this testimonial:"These were a huge hit! I have since gotten many photos of people using them at home on the garage or in a playroom!!"The RV RevolutionWe Found Our Beachhead: 11 Million American AdventurersThe RV and van life community isn't just our market – they're our co-creators.These are people who chose experiences over possessions, adventure over comfort. They immediately understood what Lumi represents: freedom from the wall-mounted TV, entertainment that goes where you go.11 million US households own an RV (62% increase in 20 years)9 million more plan to buy one in the next 5 years (not guaranteed)$25 billion spent annually on RV accessories486,000 Americans now live full time in an RV due to the cost of living rise and the crisis the US is facing.We're not competing for this market. We're becoming essential to it. Our 20-person specialized rep team with Shepherd Sales Group and DRG (two very reputable and established dealer rep groups) who sold us into over 90 RV dealerships nationwide. By Fall of 2026, we project Lumi will be as commonly talked about in RVs as GPS and WiFi systems. The RV dealers are loving the Lumi Max product and dealers are asking for us.In the Van market, we have established relationships with many OEM’s, including start ups like Aeon RV, along with the bigger players such as Field Vans and Story Teller. We continue to penetrate this aspirational market by attending events with our display and work with influencers among other things.From Proof of Concept to Google Partnership in 12 MonthsLumi 1 proved the market existed. 6,000 units sold despite limitations (no licensed OS, manual controls). It validated our thesis: People want big screen entertainment that goes anywhere.Lumi Max changes everything. With it's easy to set up and use OS to low rates of customer support calls, we are fortunate to have the Google TV license as our customers continually tell us how much they love it.This is legitimate, licensed, premium technology.The Google partnership didn't happen by accident. Paul's network from GoPro opened doors, but Google signed because they saw our vision: Lumi isn't just another projector. It's the missing link between smart homes and mobile entertainment based right here in the US.Key Differentiators:400 ANSI lumens (2x brighter than Lumi 1)Automatic keystone & focus (set it down, start watching)10W Dolby Audio (theater sound, anywhere)55% margins maintained (DTC) even with premium componentsMarket PositioningOur Edge Isn’t Price, It’s PurposeThe projector market is crowded with $50 knockoffs, but we chose a different path: creating premium products designed to enhance experiences — from immersive movie nights with healthy, posture-friendly setups, to enriching homeschool learning, to ambient backgrounds that support well-being and connection. Lumi is built for people who value experiences over expenses.While others race to the bottom on Amazon and TikTok Shop, we're building a lifestyle brand. We're following the playbook that built GoPro and Red Bull: Start with the most passionate users, deliver exceptional quality, and let the community spread the word.Our Moat:First pure-play projector company in the USLicensed Google TV integrationDistribution through 70% of US college bookstores - Currently the only smart projector sold on their marketplacePartnerships with major sports teams and enterprisesRV and Van Life Market, our dealer rep network and OEM partnershipsA team that's literally done this before at billion-dollar scaleThe Bigger VisionToday: Portable Projectors. Tomorrow: The Entire Wall.The smart TV market is worth $570 billion globally. In China, 17% of new "TV" sales are actually projectors. In the US? Just 2%.We're about to change that.Lumi Max is just the beginning. We're working towards building in other SKU's which fit squarely into our channels (think Good, Better, Best) in the portable projector category and eventually best in class projectors for in home.Lumi Verse – Is a concept for our synchronized mesh projection system that will transform entire rooms into immersive experiences. Imagine multiple Lumis working together, tracking your eyes, creating seamless displays across every surface.The Roadmap2026: Lumi IQ (AI assistant) & Lumi Vibes (ambient projections) launch recurring revenue2026: Accessory to make Lumi truly wireless2027/28: Lumi Verse transforms home entertainment foreverBut we're building something bigger..Conservative Projections. Aggressive Execution.Our projections assume modest growth, but our track record suggests we'll exceed them with enough cash raised:Hardware revenue scaling to $4M by EOY 2026Software revenue beginning Q2 2026 (subscriptions, AI credits, premium content)B2B comprising 40% of revenue (higher margins, larger orders)International expansion starting 2027 (following GoPro's proven playbook)Remember: The founders have done this before. Paul scaled GoPro from $64M to $8B+ mkt cap during his tenure, and Red Bull from ~$15M to $2B. Kody has taken multiple companies from $0 to $1M ARR. At Google, Leanne helped scale Pixel from an iOS challenger into a serious contender against Apple and Samsung, driving growth that established Pixel as a leading smartphone brand and earning multiple ‘Smartphone of the Year’ awards at Mobile World CongressProjections are not guaranteed. The Unfair Advantage: We've Already Built UnicornsThis isn't our first rodeo.Paul Crandell (CEO): GoPro CMO through $8B IPO, Red Bull founding team (employee #15 in North America)Kody Amburgey (President): Serial entrepreneur, former investment banker & VC, multiple 0-to-1 buildsLeanne Johnson (CMO): Former Google Head of US Devices Marketing and former Sr Director of Marketing at GoPro.Max May (Head of Sales, Advisor): Former GoPro Head of Global Specialty RetailEric Weinrib (Head of Field Marketing and Sales): Former Red Bull Director of Field Marketing and BMW Field EventsAdvisory Board: Michael Marks (Tesla, Flextronics), Tony Bates (Genesys, Skype, GoPro), Colin Evans (StubHub, OpenAI)This team has collectively:Built over $30B in enterprise valueLaunched products in 100+ countriesRaised hundreds of millions in venture capitalCreated multiple category-defining brandsWon many industry awards but most importantly the hearts and minds of consumers.Be Part of the Fastest-Growing Category in Home EntertainmentWe're raising capital to accelerate what's already working:40% - Inventory: Scale production to meet demand30% - Marketing: National RV shows, college campuses, digital acquisition20% - R&D: Accelerate Lumi Verse development and patent filings10% - Operations: Strengthen supply chain and fulfillmentWhy Now?Product-market fit proven (7,000+ units with minimal marketing)Google TV partnership secured (massive competitive advantage)Distribution locked in (Barnes and Noble College, RV dealers nationwide)Recurring revenue launching Q2 2026 (not guaranteed)Going in store Barnes and Noble College based on great performance in their online market placeTeam that's literally done this beforeYour Investment Gets You:Equity in the first US pure-play smart projector company with a Google TV licenseAccess to a proven team with unicorn exitsEarly entry before institutional roundsPotential acquisition target for Chinese ODM's, Samsung, Sony, Google, or Amazon (not guaranteed)The Future Is ProjectionThe Screen Revolution Already Happened. Now Comes the Surface Revolution.Twenty years ago, screens escaped the living room into our pockets, our wrists, our cars. But they're still screens. Still rectangles. Still barriers between you and your space.Lumi represents the next leap: When every surface becomes a canvas.Your tent fabric becomes a cinema. Your garage door becomes a stadium jumbotron. Your kitchen counter becomes a cookbook. The side of your RV becomes the biggest TV at the campground. This isn't about having another screen. It's about transforming the spaces you already love into experiences you'll never forget.The shift is already massive overseas. Smart projectors claim 17% of the display market in China, versus 2% in the US. That's not a gap. It's a gateway. And we're positioned perfectly to walk through it.We've built the team (GoPro's growth architects). We've secured the technology (Google TV integration). We've proven the demand ($1.4M+ in sales with minimal marketing). We've locked in distribution (Barnes and Noble College Bookstore Partner, national RV dealers - 90 +doors and growing daily).Now we're opening the door to investors who see what we see: Entertainment is about to break free from frames, and we're holding the keys.Let's project the future together.
["https://wefunder.com/grablumi","https://grablumi.com/
Former GoPro CMO who scaled to $8B+ IPO and founding team at Red Bull North America. Thank you for the thoughtful and very fair questions — we appreciate the candor. I’ll address each concern directly.Cash on hand & runway The September 2025 snapshot you’re referencing reflects a period when we were intentionally investing ahead of revenue — particularly in product transition, tariffs, and opening new channels — while operating extremely lean. Today, our cash position is stable with approximately 4 months of runway, extending through our next close via WeFunder and existing investors. Importantly, our monthly cash burn is low relative to most hardware startups.Team & operating expenses While we do have a team, our payroll structure is intentionally non-traditional:Founders (myself, Kody, and Betsy) have not taken paychecks for an extended periodMost team members are equity-based or commission-onlySales is 100% commissionOur cash outlay for contractors averages ~$5,000/monthSeveral contractors are either paid up or have accepted equity in lieu of near-term cashThis is why payroll does not appear as a large operating expense — it’s a conscious capital-efficiency choice, not an omission.Contract labor Contract labor reflects short-term, tactical support (design, engineering, event execution, and ops) rather than fixed headcount. We’ve prioritized flexibility over fixed burn while we validate channels and scale responsibly.Advertising, promotion & revenue ratio You’re correct that advertising and promotion appear high relative to revenue in past periods. That’s largely because: We were entering the RV channel as a new technology, which required physical presence, demos, and dealer education.We invested in events, POS displays, and dealer incentives (e.g., buy-4-get-1 demo units) to seed distribution.These were upfront costs designed to unlock long-term sell-through, not ongoing spendWe’re now seeing that investment begin to pay off:Dealers using our POS displays and demo setups are re-ordering.The RV channel is starting to “ripen” as awareness, trust, and sell-through improveBarnes & Noble College is already selling online and is now bringing us in-store, which materially changes our revenue efficiency.Going forward, advertising and promotion as a percentage of revenue will decline, as:We shift from awareness-building to reorder-driven salesPhysical retail and dealer sell-through replace one-time activation spendWe leverage proven channels rather than opening new ones simultaneouslyCost of revenue & survival risk We’ve already taken concrete steps to address this:Re-engineered our supply chain post-tariffs to achieve more favorable ratesImproved COGS through learnings from early production runsTransitioned to a stronger product with Google TV built in, improving value perception and margin durabilitySold out of Lumi Max in late Q4 because we chose capital discipline over over-producing inventory without sufficient fundingBottom line This company is alive today because we’ve been disciplined, scrappy, and realistic — not because we ignored the numbers. The hardest, most capital-intensive groundwork is behind us. With Barnes & Noble expanding in-store and the RV channel beginning to reorder, we believe the investments made over the last year are now positioned to compound rather than drain cash.We take the concern about capital preservation seriously — we’re owners alongside you, and our incentives are fully aligned.Thank you again for raising this — happy to go deeper on any part of it
Good afternoon, just a quick search on Amazon shows there are several very similar products selling in the same price range. The online B2C sales market is in fact quite saturated with similar hardware product - however our partnership with Google TV is a key point of differentiation vs our more commoditized competitors with unlicensed application software built into their units. See the price points of similar licensed operating system projector makers such as Anker Nebula and Samsung - software UIUX is extremely important to US consumers especially! And as new buyers enter this currently nascent market by buying budget entry-level product, enjoy the general use cases of projectors but realize a more premium upgrade is needed to lock into the category, we expect a boost in upgrade conversion cycle toward the more premium product brands. We also have expert brand builders on our team that have done this at GoPro and Red Bull, two other players in seemingly commoditized markets that built billion-dollar businesses primarily through brand and distribution. Our field sales team and retail distribution network is another point of embedded defensibility, we now actually generate majority sales by selling in bulk direct to retail partners and channel sales partners - this is a much more efficient $0-CAC channel that compounds US brand building efforts and separates Lumi from the more saturated e-commerce marketplace competition.
I’m really impressed by Lumi! Fun question because it's one of those things that thrills us every day when people send us their use cases. Here are a few that we love. College student are using it for movie night in dorm rooms and common areas to break the monotony of school work. Muralists like Skye Walker use it to outline his amazing murals and paint. We are seeing motocross riders use it in their van or on the side of their rigs after a day out at the track. We see Moms and Dads who have kids on traveling club sport sports teams take it on the road as they travel, to have a replacement for shotty hotel room TV's (half the time they don't work, are old and are small). Thus Lumi allows for not only better in hotel room watching but is great for watching footage of the days games to be ready for the next days games. My favorite though was when we sponsored an event at a ski resort with a bunch of up and coming pro athletes. We all got snowed in and many of the kids spent the night, we set up Lumi to point up at the ceiling of the lodge and all the kids in their sleeping bags watched a movie on the ceiling. Year after year GoPro's HERO cameras were hands down the best, easiest to use and hottest action cameras on the market. Do you think it will be easier or harder to stay on top when it comes to projectors?
Thank you JT! Great question. Differentiation comes in several forms. First we focus on great customer support based here in the US, while most other brands handle from overseas it seems, with longer delays. And given that tech can sometimes pose questions in the moment of pre game or movie night, it's important to us that consumers get immediate response on any questions they may have and get on with their entertainment or project. Second, we will also differentiate with strategic partnerships, such as Google where we now have a sublicense to use their Google TV, which only a few brands have. Or collegiate distribution, or specialty retail distribution vs. Online where most all other brands live because, most are drop shipping from overseas with zero boots on the ground in the US. Third, product development. With the funds raised, we will build several more designs in the immediate future, which are ready for MP. Think "Good", "Better", "Best". Fourth key differentiation point is the software we are developing to be able to take any room and transform it into a virtual reality. This will take some time but we have the team to do it. Your final question is a great one as well. I'll say it this way, I think it will be easier because it's a new category (smart projectors), the tech is advancing quickly so images are getting brighter and clearer and the portability and reliability (trust in brand) is at the backbone of everything we do. Everyone who's seen it, who weren't aware of smart projector tech or purchased, have all been incredibly stoked on what it's capable of. Above all else we have and will continue to mix a marketing cocktail which builds community through genuine relationships, not bought and paid for like most brands. We will show up at events, we will work with the film makers, the event producers, the athletes and entertainers similar to how we did at GoPro and Red Bull. With great brand work, great digital marketing for our direct business and retail as well as gifting and B2B demand, we are on our way, it's simply a matter of getting out there to "show and tell" the story. Lastly, our people. It's not about the people, it's about the right people and between myself, Leanne, Eric and Kody along with a wealth of advisors and investors from the CE space in Silicon Valley, we are very well positioned to be very strong in this category and go up against the big brands. We've been there and done that before and we will do it again. I hope this answers your questions. Please let me know if you have any others. Yes, overall we are doing great with our tech. Let me try to shed light on the performance you're speaking to. Both our Lumi-1 and Lumi Max are 1080P projectors, which means they both have high definition output. Lumens are key with projectors. Lumi-1 has 200 ANSI Lumens, whereas Lumi Max has 400 ANSI Lumens. The Lumi Max is a more vivid image and is 2x as bright as Lumi-1. When it comes to using any projector in lit environments, most projectors at our price point require lower lit areas. Such as, inside with lights dimmed or off, Lumi projectors work great, clearly the darker the better, which is the nature of projectors. Outside, it truly needs to be after sunset but projects well as the sun goes down and darkness is always the best quality and viewing experience. With all that said, if anyone is looking to watch content from a projector in full light, you'll need at least 3000 ANSI Lumens and pay in excess of $2000-5000 + a special screen with that projector. We have actually received many positive comments about how our speakers perform great and our fan noise is almost dormant. Our projectors have been noted as very quiet. We have an excellent warranty policy with our 30-,day money back guarantee. Thus if they aren't satisfied for any reason in that window, we refund them. Be that sound, bass, fan noise or any reason. After that window, we offer a 1 year manufacturer guarantee for any defects which might occur due to malfunctioning hardware or software outside of user neglect. One of our slides screenshots' in the Wefunder overview shows roughly how the market is broken out by price point today. There are many low-end commoditized options with no true brand attached, and many of these on Amazon and elsewhere online incorrectly state they have licensed Google TV. This is a serious misinformation problem currently as we're still in this market's nascent 'wild west' stage in the US. Most companies sell projectors with unlicensed software which doesn't work like a TV app - it needs constant manual updates, requires you to use "mouse mode" as it thinks it's a mobile device, doesn't include key Google apps like YouTubeTV, etc. The true Google TV comps in our price range are Nebula, Xgimi, JMGO, plus Samsung includes their own licensed software experience. Recurring revenue plan will take shape over time in several forms: 1. Hardware: We are already in over 60 RV dealers and have an amazing opportunity with Barnes and Noble College Bookstores with over 700 stores. We are also signing on new "rep groups" to handle specialty retail across the country. The trick to retail, as you may know, are getting "turns/sell through". We have created a very solid new POS (point of sale) with video enabled screen telling the story of usage occasions along with descriptors of our product. The display will work great inline in any retail environment such as end aisle and shelf display. This POS was inspired by my time at GoPro and we believe it will work for sell through and act as our "standing sales person". When we put these in at retail at GoPro, sell through jumped dramatically. Part of these funds being raised will go to increase production of these. They are designed and ready to go. 2. We will explore exclusive content opportunities in the future with future media partners... "only on Lumi" type of thing. 3. Lumi Verse technology - The goal here is to license special content for use in home, museums, schools, businesses etc. Lumi Verse will have a freemium to start and as you want to expand your experience or customize it, we will develop those SaaS packages. We will also explore licensing the mesh network tech to businesses and manufacturers.
Amazing team. First we focus on great customer support based here in the US, while most other brands handle from overseas it seems, with longer delays. And given that tech can sometimes pose questions in the moment of pre game or movie night, it's important to us that consumers get immediate response on any questions they may have and get on with their entertainment or project. Second, we will also differentiate with strategic partnershi...
I’m really impressed by Lumi! Out of curiosity, what are some of the most innovative or surprising use cases you’ve seen?
Thank you Julianna! We see Moms and Dads who have kids on tr...
Hi Paul, this product looks amazing! After selling the device, how do you plan on generating recurring revenue? Subscription services? Two of the ones I looked at have sold 10,000 and 12,000 units and have very high ratings. How would Lumi compete in a highly saturated market for this t...
Hi Imad - thanks for reaching out and great question! And as new...
This is amazing. In my portfolio I have a company that makes smart houses, a company that is a competitor to ring, a company that has smart shades etc and a company with smart appliances. We have an extended pitch deck (some screenshots are included in our raise overview page) I'd be happy to share with you and discuss over a call if helpful. One of our slides screenshots' in the Wefunder overview shows roughly how the market is broken out by price point today. There are many low-end commoditized options with no true brand attached, and many of these on Amazon and elsewhere online incorrectly state they have licensed Google TV. This is a ..."}]}}}
