Hi everyone,I want to share a collaboration we’ve been part of for the past few months, and why it matters to the work we’re doing at EFG.Hawaii has had a difficult year for power. In March, a Kona low storm caused outages across Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island. In August, Hurricane Lala damaged transmission lines on three islands. In late September, winds from Hurricane Nolo cut power to more than 16,000 customers on Maui and Oahu, including West Maui from Lahaina to Kapalua. Each time, residents were told to prepare for extended outages.Professor Alan Tratner, who leads the nonprofit Green2Gold from Maui, has been living through this firsthand. Alan has brought together a group of power specialists to develop the Multi-Mode Energy System: a self-contained, trailer-mounted unit that combines battery, solar, liquid fuel and hydrogen to provide communications, lighting and power in an emergency. It is being designed with Hawaii in mind, and it can be used anywhere the grid goes down.EFG is part of that collaboration, contributing the hydrogen component.We’re proud to be the hydrogen partner on this project. Extended outages, no grid, and a need for quiet, emission-free power are the exact conditions ZenH2 was designed for, and it means a lot to see our technology included in a system built to help communities like Alan’s.We’ll share more as the project develops.Green2Gold has also been directly affected by this year’s storms.
