There's one document a serious investor's lawyer goes looking for early, and in my experience it's the one that goes missing with the first contractors a company ever hired - the IP assignment, the page that says the code or the design or the formula belongs to the company.Paying for something and owning it are two separate pieces of paper. If the answer to "where's that signed assignment" is "probably in somebody's email," that's the first thing I'd run down before your next raise... it's a lot cheaper now than when someone else's counsel finds it.
