Our Deal Page conversion is poor, especially for logged-out users. However, a recent experimental feature has shown some amazing improvements. Starting today, we’re upgrading that feature from experiment to default for all discoverable companies.ContextCompanies raising money on Wefunder mostly just care about getting new investors… obviously. But, as a growth engineer, I know that investment isn’t a binary (“are you in or out?”), it’s a funnel!Knowing that 7.2% of followers convert to investors within 90 days, if I generate 100 new followers, I might reasonably generate 7.2 new investors! (Not really, for reasons , but for illustration).ExperimentInvesting is a very big ask to make of someone, especially if it’s someone who doesn’t know you, learning about your company for the first time. So, the thinking goes, why not offer logged-out users an obvious, lower-barrier way to engage with the company before they invest? The hypothesis being that such an option would significantly increase the number of users who follow companies. We ran an AB test affecting every discoverable company on, wherein 50% of logged-out users got the following follow-focused modal overlaid atop their Deal Page:Users can follow, either by signing up or just entering their email. A user doesn’t need a Wefunder account to receive your posts via email!ResultsHonestly, the experiment returned conclusive results much better — and much faster — than I expected.Users who saw the modal followed the company (either by account or by email-only) at a rate ~11x users who didn’t see the modal. With such a large lift over a sample size of ~36K users, these results are statistically significant. The same positive results repeated in the secondary metrics: account creations increased, company follows per exposed visitor, etc.The only secondary metric that didn’t show a significant increase was investments, which was intended! My only intention in measuring eventual investments was to ensure that this modal didn’t deter interested investors. We now have evidence that it doesn’t.What’s NextBecause the modal increased conversion by such a large margin, we are rolling it out as default for all companies except those raising Private Rounds, or with their privacy settings set to invite-only.That said, companies can enable or disable the feature as they choose, by going to Settings > Company Settings > Growth Tools, and scrolling to the bottom option:One More Thing! In addition to my Substack, I will also start cross-posting here on Wefunder, so follow me here too!As we work to improve the posting, following, and general social features of Wefunder — for both founders and investors — it’s crucial for me to dogfood all the features.Until next time,Joe
