Yesterday marked 64 years since The Jetsons first aired on TV, which got me thinking about how much of that show has actually come true. The show was set 100 years in the future in 2062. George Jetson made video calls across town to Jane, his wife. His boy, Elroy, flew a drone around the living room. They had smartwatches, flat-screen TVs, digital news, and, while Rosie may not exist yet to clean our houses top to bottom, we do have robot vacuums.One big big way the Jetsons were ahead of today’s world is flying cars.The flying cars are, as you may guess, the most interesting part of the show to me. There are no visible rotors, no exposed blades, just a clean little vehicle that lifts straight off the balcony and cruises through the sky. That's what a flying car looks like when you imagine it with no constraints at all: you hop in, you zip away, you land anywhere, and it's quiet, safe, fast, and ultimately convenient. The TV show was envisioning the version of flight everyone actually wants.This is the version of advanced air mobility that we envision as well. Our Fluidic Propulsive System® replaces spinning rotors with a jet of accelerated air, enabling our aircraft to behave a lot like the cars in the Jetsons. That also means our aircraft can safely take off, fly, and land much closer to buildings and people. The Jetsons made that kind of flight look ordinary in animation.
