Hi everyone,By now, you probably know quite a bit about our flagship product, the ZenH2 generator. We've spent less time walking through the energy cartridge that powers it, so we wanted to spend some time sharing what it is and how we designed it to ensure it’s as user and environmentally friendly as the power it produces. How ZenH2 works, from the ground upZenH2 is built around a simple process: insert a cartridge, add water, and the unit generates a tiny amount of hydrogen. That hydrogen is immediately converted into electricity as power is needed by the device plugged in. The process repeats continuously, generating hydrogen just in time, which is what is meant by on-demand. So, there’s no need to store hydrogen. The process is virtually silent and safe to run indoors, something no gas or diesel generator can do. The generator itself is the system: the housing, the electronics, the interface. The energy cartridge is the consumable part, and it's where the actual chemistry happens. What is the energy cartridge?Every ZenH2 unit runs on a cartridge: a compact, home-deliverable canister containing our proprietary powdered fuel. It works with any water source to produce hydrogen on contact. From the start, we didn't want a product that gets manufactured and thrown away every time it's used. The cartridge housing is built using recycled materials and designed to go through at least 10 production cycles before it’s retired. How refills workZenH2 energy cartridges are estimated to cost approximately $6.45 and will be delivered in a specially formed reusable box like the one you see in the animation below, by Amazon, DHL, Fedex etc. When it's time to use it, you insert the cartridge, add water, and it produces electricity on-demand. When a cartridge runs out, you replace it with another cartridge and return the used one to us, in the reusable box. The boxes contain six energy cartridges. When all six are used, just insert the cartridges, close the box and send back to EFG. We’ll take care of the rest. Our carbon footprint measured by ClimeCoBecause reuse is central to how the energy cartridge is designed, we wanted real numbers on what it actually saves, so we asked ClimeCo LLC, an independent environmental markets firm, to calculate the actual environmental cost of producing the fuel and the energy cartridge housing. Using a standardized international method, they found a total footprint of 0.683 kg CO2e per kilogram of hydrogen produced (the "e" means equivalent). That works out to about 0.08 kg CO2e per cartridge, compared to roughly 1.8 kg CO2e for the equivalent amount of gasoline. In more familiar terms, that's about 2.82 oz CO2e for ZenH2 versus 63.46 oz CO2e for gasoline. Here's what really stood out: roughly three-quarters of our carbon footprint comes from the polypropylene housing, not the fuel chemistry, which is a small fraction by comparison. That's exactly why building the energy cartridge housing to go through 10 production cycles instead of one matters as much as it does. Reusing it multiple times, across those cycles, is what reduces carbon into our atmosphere, which is a benefit to everyone on our planet. This figure covers the fuel and cartridge only, not the ZenH2 generator itself, its electronics, or its assembly. We'll have more to share on the full picture as that gets built out.If this is the kind of sustainable engineering you want to back, you can join our round and help us keep building it out. If you have questions about ZenH2 or investing in this round, you can book a call with me directly here. And if you haven’t already, make sure you’ve pre-ordered your ZenH2 on our website so your place in line is secured when we start production.— Mark
