I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Michael B. Horn, co-author of Disrupting Class and co-founder of the Clayton Christensen Institute, for the Changemaker Education Podcast.Michael has spent nearly two decades studying how disruptive innovation can expand access and improve education. During our conversation, he said something that captures why we believe this moment matters:“I think it’s never been a better time to be an education entrepreneur starting schools than right now.”Across the country, more educators are ready to build something different. Families are looking for smaller, more personalized options. Education funding is increasingly following students. And technology is allowing small schools to offer learning experiences that once required much larger institutions.Yet Michael also emphasized something we believe deeply:“Technology is a support. It’s not the lead.”The future of education will still depend on people. It will depend on educators who know their students deeply, families who are true partners, and small communities where children feel loved, seen, heard, and valued.Michael envisions an education landscape that includes several microschool networks operating at scale alongside many distinctive, locally created schools. That vision closely reflects what we are building at Changemaker Education. Our Founders do not open identical schools. They create learning environments around their own gifts and the needs of their communities, while Changemaker provides the coaching, operating infrastructure, enrollment support, partnerships, and community needed to help them succeed. Our newest Founder cohort is now underway, with an inspiring group preparing to launch schools for Fall 2027. Our goal is to help more extraordinary local leaders move from an idea to a sustainable, life-changing microschool. This conversation reinforced my belief that the opportunity in front of us is much larger than launching individual microschools. We are helping build the infrastructure for a more personalized, locally led, and deeply human future of education.I invite you to listen to my conversation with Michael and learn more about the movement we are working to advance.Listen to the podcast: https://www.changemakereducation.com/podcastThank you to everyone who has already invested, shared our story, introduced us to a potential Founder, or helped us imagine what comes next.
