Dear Stratton & Ivy investors and followers,I’ve reached out to you on numerous occasions in an effort to provide as much insight as possible into what we are building and why we are building it.Choosing an investment takes research. For many of you, scrolling through companies on WeFunder and deciding where to place your confidence is not always an easy decision. There are countless metrics to consider, countless stories being told, and countless promises being made.Throughout my career, however, I have always believed that two things ultimately matter most: does the founder have the experience and judgment to lead the company forward, and does the company have the right product? After an extremely successful 40-year career with one company, one lesson has remained constant for me: it always comes back to the product. That is why a recent statement from Lululemon’s new CEO, Heidi O’Neill, immediately caught my attention. In outlining her priorities, she said, “That starts with product. Product that is innovative and distinctive.” (The Wall Street Journal)I could not agree more.Take a look at the attached photograph of one of the belts we have just developed. To some, a belt may appear to be a relatively simple product. But I spent decades with a company that ultimately shipped approximately 30 million belts a year. I learned firsthand that even within a category most people rarely think about, product, detail, innovation and execution are everything. So whether you have already invested in Stratton & Ivy or are simply following our progress, understand what sits at the center of this company:We are a product-driven company, first and foremost.Design matters. Quality matters. Detail matters. And above all, creating product that is distinctive enough to give the customer a reason to choose us matters. That is the foundation we are building on.James TulinFounder & CEO
