The mortgage is one of the greatest wealth-building tools ever invented. It allows homeowners to build equity through the simple act of making their monthly housing payment.Renters don't have access to a comparable tool. They pay for housing every month, but don't get to benefit from the asset appreciation generated by the properties they live in.We built rentvesting to change that. Here's how it works. Instead of paying rent straight to a landlord, a renter invests that same monthly amount into the Groma Real Estate Trust, and Groma covers their rent for as long as they hold the shares. They can hold them as long as they want. When they sell, Groma’s paid back for the rent we covered, and any growth in the shares is the renter’s to keep. If the shares lose value, that's on us, so the worst case is they've simply paid their rent the way they always have.Renters aren't paying any more than they already do, and without a down payment, they're building real estate equity.Rentvesting is still in beta. We just wrapped the first year of our pilot, and the model works. 21 renters put $765,132 into the Groma Real Estate Trust through rentvesting and gained $23,764 in equity along the way, on money they would have lost to rent. A broader launch is planned for later this year.Rentvesting runs on the Groma Real Estate Trust, the same portfolio of 100+ buildings that current investors already own a piece of.One of our Wefunder investors put it this way:"I tried my luck at buying a home on my own, but it became overwhelming. Still, I believe real estate is the way to make a recurring passive income — enter Groma Real Estate." — Mercile, Groma Real Estate Trust investorThe round is almost fully subscribed.
