Spring 2026 - It's been a strong stretch of progress for GMSO in recent months. Here's an inside look at what's moving forward.R/V Cosmo following major upgrades and preparing for her next chapter in operation.R/V Cosmo is back in the water following her overhaul, with major upgrades now in place across navigation, sonar, and onboard systems. With Captain Lad Akins at the helm, Cosmo is currently in transit down the east coast of the USA, with plans to continue to Panama in the near term. G. This represents a significant step in building operational capability within the GMSO network. At the same time, we've been advancing our partnership with renowned explorer Victor Vescovo and Caladan Oceanic on next-generation ocean mapping vessels. The focus is on highly efficient, semi-autonomous deep-water vessels capable of operating continuously and collecting data at scale—dramatically increasing how much of the ocean can be mapped, and how quickly.Concept study with Victor Vescovo and Caladan Oceanic: a 23-meter, hyper-efficient mapping vessel designed to survey more than 2 million sq km of ocean floor per year. We’re also continuing to expand partnerships alongside our affiliated nonprofit, the Greenwater Foundation, supporting large-scale seabed mapping and data efforts underway with Seabed 2030, Caladan Oceanic, and TCarta. Together, these efforts have already contributed to the mapping of nearly 300,000 square kilometers of ocean floor. The Foundation also just announced the launch of the updated Vessel Connect platform—an improved, more user-friendly system that enhances visibility of available vessels and helps align them more efficiently with mission needs. The updated Vessel Connect platform—improving access to research-capable vessels through a more user-friendly experience. Our CEO and founder, Commander G. Mark Miller, has been actively sharing GMSO’s work and progress on a global stage, helping build broader awareness around the need for scalable ocean access. Recent presentations include the Captains’ Forum at the Yacht Club de Monaco and EarthX, including its E-Capital Summit in Dallas over Earth Day, where GMSO was selected as a semi-finalist for its inaugural Ocean Innovation prize. Upcoming engagements include Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) and World Oceans Week at The Explorers Club headquarters in New York.G. Mark Miller with Admiral Tim Gallaudet at EarthX, where leaders gathered to advance practical environmental solutions.Across the board, one thing is becoming very clear, demand for reliable, mission-ready vessels is evident and growing. The conversations we’re having and the traction we’re seeing reinforce the need for what GMSO is building.Strong alignment across industry and partners continues to build, with a focus on execution: bringing vessels online, expanding capability, and delivering access to the ocean where and when it’s needed. We appreciate you being part of this community from the early stages. More to come.Sincerely, Commander G.
