The Problem: Every year, more than two million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer, and many of them undergo chemotherapy as part of their treatment. While chemotherapy saves lives, it often comes with serious side effects. One of the most debilitating is chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) — nerve damage that can cause pain, numbness, and long-term disability in the hands and feet.For many patients, CIPN can become permanent and significantly reduce quality of life. It can even force doctors to reduce or stop chemotherapy treatment early, which impacts survival.Despite how common and serious this problem is, there are currently very limited solutions available to help prevent CIPN and there is no treatment to cure it.The Solution: At Eisana Health, we are developing the Soothe™ Cooling System, a device designed to help protect patients’ nerves during chemotherapy treatment by delivering controlled cooling therapy. Our device is unique because our patients can use their hands and feet while they cool unlike all the other methods currently available. We have a functional prototype, which has been tested on human subjects, and are working to enhance it for manufacturing. Our Team brings together expertise in biomedical engineering, clinical research, medical device development and manufacturing, and we are working to advance the Soothe™ system toward clinical validation and commercialization.
