🚨 Exciting news: SmartWeave has officially begun building its own R&D lab in Puerto Rico.This is a meaningful milestone for us, not because it’s flashy, but because it directly supports what we’re trying to build.Over the past few weeks, we’ve started standing up internal R&D operations in San Juan in partnership with the Molecular Sciences Research Center at the University of Puerto Rico.Until now, much of Smartweave’s work has lived inside academic partner labs. Those collaborations continue, but building our own lab allows us to move faster and more deliberately across the entire platform.Specifically, this lab enables us to:• Run formulation and materials experiments in-house• Refine our bioactive coatings and regenerative hydrogels under our own protocols• Generate the data needed to advance regulatory and licensing discussions• Apply the same core technologies across pelvic health, orthopedics, cardiovascular repair, and beyondThe buildout is actively underway, and our team will be training directly in partner labs in early February to transfer protocols and experimental methods.This work is supported in part by capital incentives from the government of Puerto Rico, which helps us establish real regenerative medicine infrastructure and accelerate progress toward clinical translation.This is also exactly why we opened our WeFunder raise.Rather than waiting for a single institutional check, we’re using this round to fund foundational capabilities like this lab, the people who run it, and the data that turns platform science into real products.
