This October, our team at ExactRx had the opportunity to share our latest research at the Digital Orthopaedics Conference San Francisco (DOCSF) 2025, where we unveiled how our AI-powered checklist platform is helping surgical teams reduce denials, eliminate administrative friction, and prevent costly delays to care in orthopedic surgery. Our study, “AI-Powered Checklists: Reducing Claims Denials and Delays to Care in Orthopedic Surgery,” was presented by Dr. Gina Cocos, our Director of Clinical Intelligence, alongside Dr. Jan Krumsiek, Ellard Li, and myself. Together, we showcased how ExactRx’s automation engine supports teams across pre-admission testing, claims preparation, and intra- and post-operative workflows—helping connect clinical excellence with operational performance.“Orthopedic teams are under immense pressure to deliver high-quality care while navigating increasingly complex administrative demands,” said Dr. Gina Cocos, UCSF-trained pharmacist and ExactRx’s Director of Clinical Intelligence. “ExactRx helps close the gap between clinical readiness and financial clearance so that care isn’t delayed by paperwork. In a retrospective analysis, we identified over $1.47 million in recoverable denial exposure just by addressing documentation and authorization gaps.”Our proprietary automation engine combines vision-language models, defensible clinical rules, and document-classification pipelines to autonomously extract, validate, and cross-match data within EMR workflows. By flagging missing documentation such as labs, consults, or authorizations before surgery, the platform automatically aligns CPT and ICD codes to payer policy, ensuring every claim is submission-ready and compliant.Preliminary results from our study with a high-volume outpatient surgery center demonstrated significant workflow and financial impact: Up to $1.47M in recoverable denial exposure from documentation, bundling, and authorization gaps 30% reduction in surgeries delayed or denied due to incomplete documentation Improved staff retention and throughput from decreased administrative burden At ExactRx, our mission has always been to let positive clinical outcomes drive financial workflows, not the other way around. By embedding automation directly into surgical workflows, we help centers operate smarter, faster, and more profitably while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.Presenting this work at DOCSF was a milestone moment for our team. The conversations we had with clinicians, technologists, and health system leaders reaffirmed what we’ve believed from the start: automation in healthcare shouldn’t replace human expertise; it should amplify it.For more information, visit www.exactrx.aiThe Digital Orthopaedics Conference San Francisco (DOCSF) is a premier global forum convening leading surgeons, health-system executives, technologists and venture investors to advance the digital transformation of musculoskeletal care.
