It has expanded its presence across 35 provinces, from north to south, managing over 150 properties and welcoming more than 10,000 tourists from 25 different nationalities. In 2023, the company, founded during the COVID-19 pandemic by Nicolas Verderosa and a team of young professionals with backgrounds in economics and tourism, secured two capital increases. The first raised €210,000 through an equity crowdfunding campaign on CrowdFundMe, the only publicly traded crowdfunding platform in Italy, attracting investors including the Lifegate network. The second raised €300,000, with €250,000 coming from a U.S. investor, allowing them to participate in the Italian Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy’s "Investor Visa" program.Last year, Ruralis also quadrupled its workforce, growing from four to sixteen employees. Sixty percent of the team now works remotely, reflecting the company’s commitment to flexibility and employee well-being. Among the key hires is Paolo Procacci, former manager at Booking.com, who joined as Chief Commercial Officer to expand the availability of high-quality accommodations for international travelers.Ruralis was founded to tackle a major issue in Italy’s short-term rental market: the lack of hospitality options in remote areas, where high-value properties often remain unutilized and unpromoted. Currently, it is the only operator fully digitalizing accommodations in Italy’s most rural and isolated locations. The company manages and enhances properties and guest experiences, excluding check-in/check-out, cleaning, and maintenance, serving both private owners and public administrations. It offers travelers worldwide the chance to discover hidden historical and natural treasures along with unique, off-the-beaten-path experiences. There are no direct competitors in Italy specializing exclusively in the rural segment."Our vision is to demonstrate that economic growth and hope can be reignited in Italian municipalities through innovative and sustainable business models, helping to counteract depopulation," says CEO Nicolas Verderosa.Looking ahead to 2024, Verderosa adds, "We will launch a Series A funding round while continuing to improve the quality of our services. Our goal for the year is to expand into nearly all Italian provinces and enter a new European market."Currently, Ruralis operates across all Italian regions.
