Studying the issue, he determined the need for a system that would leave the stern of the vessel free for easy access to the deck, and so was born the Articulated Engine Support Project – a device that allows the engines to be moved laterally.Ghinis’ patented outboard engine system. When at anchor, the engines can be swung to the side of the boat for easy access to the deckSensing such an innovation could have major impact on the small- to medium-sized boat market, Ghinis secured a worldwide patent. He then hired Australia’s B&G Yacht Design to develop a 33ft boat and Dutch firm KB Alufrees to build the aluminium hull. According to Ghinis, aluminium was chosen as a more environmentally friendly option, being capable of being melted down at the end of its life.“The boat’s design makes full advantage of the stern space normally occupied by the engine,” he says. “When at anchor the engines can be swung out to the sides of the boat.
