This is part 2 of our update on our glaucoma project. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in people aged 50+ around the world. Through measuring the shape of the optic cup and optic disc in the back of the eye, we've found evidence for a previously unknown subtype of glaucoma in women aged 40+. We analyzed the images from a study called GRAPE, which tracked the development of glaucoma in men and women in China. Because the researchers included information on each patient's sex, we were able to analyze sex as a factor in our data. More research needs to be done to make sure that this unknown subgroup also exists in other datasets and other demographics (other than Chinese women), but we are excited that Shape Genie, our patent-pending shape analysis tool, can uniquely find things that no other technology can! Here is a video explaining the results![Video 7 min]: ShapeGenie Identifies Glaucoma Subtypes in Femaleshttps://youtu.be/jtr6V9nWiFUSlides from video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TNt-OexpuWEQen8dWlNPSEvuoT6JzkOs/view?usp=sharing
