Dear Friends,We’d like to wish you a joyful holiday season. We have a lot to celebrate this year! We’re just coming off the glow of our East Coast Premiere of "Katie’s Mom," a sold-out screening at the Regal Union Square in New York City through Dances with Films: New York. We were honored to share our film with so many of you, our long-time supporters and investors. Thank you to all who came and wished us well!On a not-so-joyous note, the results were announced for the Decentralized Pictures Andrews/Bernard #2 Award, which many of you voted in. While “Katie’s Mom” came in FIRST PLACE in the competition, the judges selected the film that came in FIFTH PLACE to receive the grant money. This was very disappointing to our team, who spent a great deal of time and resources rallying supporters to vote in what we believed was a contest ruled by popular vote. As a female-led production starring women and telling a woman’s story, we were dismayed that the winner was another story written and directed by men.We are looking for supporters who have connections to the Coppola family (who founded Decentralized Pictures) or Steven Soderbergh (who selected the winner of the Andrews/Bernard #2 Award.) We’d like to give them an opportunity to right this situation. We believe our story would especially resonate with Sofia Coppola as a female filmmaker herself. We had planned to use the grant money to fund press and advertising to potentially launch a targeted theatrical release. After our three highly successful screenings, we know that the film does well on the big screen. At this time, we are actively seeking coproducers to join the team and their participation would help us with marketing costs.
