Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the environment and raising awareness about the urgent need to protect it. This day of commemoration was created on April 22, 1970 in the United States. This day is often considered the first environmental movement. Year after year, this event has become the most important celebration with a worldwide repercussion and a high level of participation and commitment.The movement was initiated by Senator Gaylord Nelson, who was the Senator from Wisconsin at the time. He encouraged college students to educate their communities about the environment. Through this movement, Gaylord Nelson's goal was to show politicians the need to make the topic of the environment a central issue and to include it in a national policy. This celebration led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).No matter where you are or who you are, there are many things you can do:As a citizen, you can join an association that works to combat climate change, pollution, and other environmental issues. You can also make simple changes to your daily habits, such as eating less meat, promoting local agriculture and products, or reducing your reliance on cars by walking or taking public transportation.If you work for an association or school, you can organize events that educate people on how to recycle, reduce waste, and conserve resources. You can also participate in cleanup activities and encourage students or colleagues to adopt sustainable practices (save electricity, water,…)If you work for an administration you can organize a theme day. For example a day without car in a district of the city and during this time make a lot of awareness actions. You can promote biodiversity by planting trees and flowers. The goal is to make the city greener, which helps a lot to fight against the high temperatures of the summer. You can reintroduce bees, which are good allies in polenization.In a company setting, you can promote eco-friendly practices by reducing waste, encouraging carpooling, and organizing educational events or debates. At Airthium, we are working on the fight against climate change on the one hand via our high temperature heat pump to decarbonize industrial heat. But we also apply these practices in our daily life. We are very involved in the sorting of our waste and make sure to reuse what can be reused as much as possible. We encourage carpooling and are careful with our water and electricity consumption.No matter how big or small your actions are, they can make a difference.Feel free to tell us what you are doing for Earth Day and if you have any ideas for actions to do during this day (and the rest of the year).
