While we’re still a week away from summer officially beginning, at Phenomena, summer has already begun! Our interns are on board, the Phenomena Creator Camp is up and running, and we’re already thinking about back-to-school in the fall. Here's a quick TL;DR:We've launched the private beta of the Phenomena Creator Tool. The response so far has been very positive and people are using it to build real experiences. See screenshots below and a fun video tutorial here.We are focusing our efforts over the next few months on the growth of our Creator Community and then the growth of our Educator Community in late summer.I am returning to fundraising with the goal of raising $100k by the end of the summer and then completing the $750k pre-seed round in the fall.Product DevelopmentWhen I last wrote, we were nearing the end of our first major development cycle for the Phenomena Creator Tool. At that time, we had no users. Starting three weeks ago, our interns became the first real users of the Phenomena Creator Tool and we haven’t looked back since. The interns took to the Creator Tool like a fish to water and began producing amazing experiences even in their first week on the job. All this time, they’ve been actively submitting feature requests and bug reports which we’ve been able to address in near real-time. It’s been an awesome process to observe and the product has benefited immensely from it. At this point, the Creator Tool is stable, functional and easy to use. Most importantly, people are enjoying using it to make things. If you’re curious to see the Phenomena Creator Tool in action, check out this wonderful YouTube video made by one our interns last week demonstrating how to make a simple bouncing ball experience:Community GrowthNow that the software is stable and the interns are on board, I am shifting my gears to focus on growth. Specifically, we are focused on the growth of our Creator Community at the moment. This is necessary to build out the initial mass of content on the platform, which is a prerequisite for bringing on educators. Our Creator Community will also be a critical part of our ecosystem moving forward.Fortunately, I am not alone in this effort. I have one intern who is spending half their time on community growth. I’m also asking all of the interns to contribute by creating at least one social media post per week. Additionally, we are incentivizing the PCC attendees to post on social media and to make introductions for us to other potential creators. All of these efforts are in nascent stages so it’s too early to tell what’s working. We'll know much more soon. At the moment, we have about 70 creators who have signed up for the Creator Camp. This includes both college students and teachers. Our goal is to reach 200 creators signed onto the platform by the end of the summer.FundraisingWe are still in the midst of our $750k pre-seed round. (As a reminder, it’s a standard post-money SAFE note with a $6M cap.) This past Q1, I raised $200k towards this goal, all from angel investors. Now that the product is much further along and we're beginning to see some traction, we're in a better place to raise the rest of the round. My plan is to raise $100k this summer, in order to give us clearance through the fall. I expect these funds to come from angel investors. Once these funds are secured, I will reach out to early-stage VC’s and gauge their interest. Ideally, I’d love to complete the round with one or two pre-seed institutional investors each contributing $100-$250k.ConclusionClearly, this will be a very active summer at Phenomena. We are pushing on all fronts to establish the platform as both a user-friendly tool for creators and an engaging destination for educators and students. We’re not quite there yet, but I can feel us gaining momentum day by day, and the software platform is now in a good place to support this growth. As always, I truly appreciate your support and am grateful for the opportunity to build this platform for creators, for educators and most importantly, for students.Onward and upward!JaredJared Schiffman | Founder & CEO | Phenomena
