In my last post, we discussed the changes we wanted to see in the Wuxia genre. This week I want to share about a few “true norths” for us. What are the core values and inspirations that we have tapped into to create a new chapter for the timeless tradition. World creation is a big undertaking, and these are some true norths for the Immortal ethos:1) By building a company that is singularly focused on Awakening the Hero in Everyone, we are bringing the Xia -- the heroism, the selflessness -- back into the martial; 2) To share a world where EVERYONE IS THE ONE and not just a few. Where everyone who works, practices, and cultivates their "qi" will awaken their heroes.3) We are making stories that are set in modern day to bring these timeless ideas and aspirations into our world, today, because they are valuable for our lives today;4) Wuxia is a transformational genre, and Immortal remains authentic to its traditions of empowerment, self discover and connection with the world around us.5) To create a storyworld that brings together all the wide ranging influences of the genre from the local Kung Fu Studio all the way to immortals in a methodical and authentic way so that this timeless genre can have a home for it that understands it, respects and loves it; 6) Finally, even though this tradition comes from China – we want to share it with the rest of the world not only as a component of Chinese culture, but something for the world to participate in and celebrate as its own.
