## Story
When Wycliffe was 21, he was flying high. The company he and his brother were running was doing really well, they bought a million-dollar house, and he was ripping around LA in a shiny new Ferrari. But when their main client went bankrupt, Wycliffe found himself at an impasse. He went back to UC Berkley to finish his degree — he had dropped out two years earlier when the company took off — and learned valuable lessons in humility and the budgeting. When Wycliffe started Dealflicks, he knew the company would have to be efficient if it was to be successful, but co-founder and head of sales Kevin Hong took bootstrapping to the max when he traded his Acura TSX for his father’s Toyota Sienna, and turned it into the ultimate sales vehicle: the Dealflicks ManVan. Hong spends most of his time criss-crossing the country in the ManVan, meeting with theater owners and signing up clients ever since. He also sleeps in it, on a full-sized mattress that he shares with a fellow sales rep, to save money. “Sometimes we get a lot of flack,” Hong says — but it’s worth it. “Our sales guys work really hard, and sleeping in a van in a Wal-Mart parking lot is not always glamorous.” Still, it makes for a good story — and one that has paid off, big time. Hong solidified Dealflicks’ first sale by driving to Gardena Cinema in Los Angeles, meeting with the owners face-to-face, and at one point surprising them with his mother’s homemade scallion pancakes. Since then, more than 500 other theatres locations have also signed up — the vast majority resulting from similar face-to-face interaction, but not all involving Hong’s mother’s now somewhat famous pancakes.

## FAQ
1. **What's to stop Fandango to offer exactly what you're offering? Won't they have an edge over you given their existing relationships with theaters? They're not going to sit around and watch you take business away from them so I'm curious to hear what how you think they'll react?**
   - Karan, This is a great question, one that we usually go into detail on via phone/in person given the confidential nature of a few things here. So unfortunately I can't answer this question directly on this forum, but I can share a few things regarding the topic: Fandango/Movietickets.com are going through some strategic changes right now in terms of movie theaters moving away from exclusive agreements. See http://bit.ly/NYSfIL and http://bit.ly/NCsu15 Fandango is also starting to strategicall...
2. **Fascinating! Are there any competitors to DealFlicks? Is anyone else trying something similar?**
   - Great question! Daily deal sites. They do movie deals once in awhile, but are very expensive for movie theaters (a 50% discount to consumers and a ~50% revenue share are tough because theaters generally have to pay distributors ~50% of retail ticket price, or $5 on a $10 ticket, even if they discount). Also, daily deal sites are not able to focus on specific showtimes (i.e. the daily deal is good for any showtime), so daily deal purchasers may use the vouchers on opening weekend. Dealflicks f...
3. **Would you be willing to accept an investment directly with the company outside of Wefunder? In what amount?**
   - Gregory, just so you know, we don't charge carry for investments over $25,000.
4. **hey guys, great idea, I have one question, a movie if its a big hit, when does the cinema allow you to start selling tickets at a discount, as a hit movie doesn't require then to sell tickets cheap? how does the system work? I guess you have to wait till the 2nd or 3rd week of ...**
   - It depends mostly on the theater. Some theaters restrict movies for a week or two, others restriction them for opening weekend, and many offer a limited amount of tickets on opening weekend. Our platform allows theaters to setup restrictions in various ways so it can meet their marketing goals.

## Q&A
- Q: What's to stop Fandango to offer exactly what you're offering? Won't they have an edge over you given their existing relationships with theaters? They're not going to sit around and watch you take business away from them so I'm curious to hear what how you think they'll react?
  - A: Karan, This is a great question, one that we usually go into detail on via phone/in person given the confidential nature of a few things here. So unfortunately I can't answer this question directly on this forum, but I can share a few things regarding the topic: Fandango/Movietickets.com are going through some strategic changes right now in terms of movie theaters moving away from exclusive agreements. See http://bit.ly/NYSfIL and http://bit.ly/NCsu15 Fandango is also starting to strategically focus on content. See http://nyti.ms/1hQFCdR There are 3 more major points on this question that I can't write here, but if you're thinking about investing a significant amount (let's say $5K+) and want to know more, I'm happy to jump on a call with you to go over this. One thing of note is that one of our advisors is the former CFO of Fandango (Eden Warner) and another is the former VP of Marketing for Movietickets.com (Stuart Halperin), so we're positioned well and are pretty knowledgable when it comes to the online ticketers :)
- Q: I'd like to discuss a potential investment ($5k+) but have some questions. Please let me know how we can get in touch to discuss. Thanks.
- Q: Would you be willing to accept an investment directly with the company outside of Wefunder? In what amount?
  - A: Gregory, just so you know, we don't charge carry for investments over $25,000.
- Q: Fascinating! Are there any competitors to DealFlicks? Is anyone else trying something similar?
  - A: Great question! Dealflicks focuses on specific showtimes that our theater partners choose, we generally charge 10-15%, and we also allow the theater to set the deal/discount price (our average discount is 30% off, the range is 10%-60% off). Costco/Bulktix.com. They offer VIP tickets to AMC/Regal/some other chains, but you have to purchase in store (Costco) or they mail the tickets to you (Bulktix). Also, like daily deals, these channels are not able to focus on specific showtimes (i.e. the physical discount pass is good for any showtime), so purchasers may use the vouchers on opening night at 7pm. Fandango/Movietickets.com They sell movie tickets online, but only sell full-priced tickets. They also charge a $.50-$2.00 convenience fee per ticket purchased. There are usually 3-4 smaller startups that are trying to do something similar, but none ever launch. This has been going on for the past decade, here's a few current examples: Chimpflix (never launched, founders moved on in late 2012/early 2013): http://chimpflix.com/ Project Optix (never launched): http://beta.optixproject.com/ Moviemutz (never launched, only the logo remains): http://99designs.com/users/808024 The good news is that Dealflicks has developed an API that will allow other startups and web/mobile apps to white label and sell our inventory within their app (developers.dealflicks.com). As a result, other new startups can focus on the customer experience while we supply the inventory, and we'd both make money :)

- Q: does dealflicks decide what to offer and how many seats to offer discounts on or it is up to cinema owner to design and float the offer on dealflicks?
