A few more: (1) What are the future feature possibilities that we can look forward to? (2) Does the lack of screen (to control the device) limit important features that might become desirable (e.g. Apple watch has a screen that you can interact with)? (3) Do you see this as a big issue? (4) When/How do people usually use FitBit? Will people use their 'regular / style' watches during those times? e.g. at the gym, on a jog or while asleep, I can't imagine if I would want to wear a Rolex, but I can see wearing a FitBit or some other watch for this purpose (don't care too much if i sweat or scratch it, lightweight). (5) Maybe Chronos can sync to the same database as the watch I would wear during exercise to store the same info (not sure if this is even good idea)? THANKS!","author_name":"James Nguyen","votes":0,"created_at":"2016-01-23T00:56:59Z","canonical_url":"https://wefunder.com/chronos#question-3116","answers":[{"id":3120,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:3120","answer":"Thanks for the additional thoughtful questions James. My responses are as follows: (1) we have a pipeline of additional features that we can add to our existing product with firmware updates and also roll out with new products in the future. Expect version 2.0 of this product to launch in 2017 (Chronos 1.0 launches this Spring). One feature we are especially excited about is iot connectivity and using Chronos as a controller for your increasingly connected home. (2/3) We found that what people really love about smart watches today doesn't require a screen - these are 1, tracking steps and activity, 2, checking the time and 3, receiving unique and personalized notifications. This is what we've focused in on for our product. (4) Fitbit is a step/activity tracker that people wear all the time, not just when they're working out - which is a pain point for existing watch wearers and an advantage for us - we let people keep their personal style, keep the watch they love and track their activity at the same time, while also having additional features, like filtered notifications and phone/iot controls (which Fitbits can't do). Also, if you don't want to wear your Rolex when you're working out, just take the Chronos off that watch and put it on your running watch (that's what I do ;). (5) Yes, that's exactly how we've designed Chronos - you can use our application for all your fitness/activity tracking, or you can use your existing apps and Chronos data will port over easily. We've designed Chronos to be as easy to use as possible.","author_name":"Mark Nichol","votes":1,"created_at":"2016-01-25T20:00:32Z"}]},{"id":3104,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:3104","question":"(1) What is the biggest competitor to Chronos as the moment and potentially in the future? Our competition falls within three main buckes – fitness trackers which we don’t think look good next to your watch and are another thing to remember to wear every day, smartwatches which are trying to replace the watch you love to wear and finally the watch industry’s attempt which includes Companies like Montblanc and IWC who have made connected straps, which dramatically change the look and feel of the watches they come on, and are also very expensive ($300+). Chronos doesn’t change the look and feel of your watch and only costs $129 – so it’s very accessible and looks great on any watch. With Chronos, our goal is to be the market leader in transforming existing watches into smart watches. We are the first to market with a product that does this in the most discreet and seamless way possible. If Apple, or anyone else, were to make a Chronos knock-off, they would be a clear second to the space and, more importantly, they would be violating our issued global patents. I also think that Apple is committed to their smart watches and by introducing a Chronos-like device they would be admitting they can’t compete with the watch industry. While we believe that the traditional watch industry is not going anywhere (over 1.2 billion watches were sold last year – that’s a record!), I don’t expect Apple to be conceding that just yet!","author_name":"Mark Nichol","votes":1,"created_at":"2016-01-19T19:37:51Z"}]},{"id":3076,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:3076","question":"What is the differentiation against the product trivoly is producing?","author_name":"Jennifer Stein","votes":0,"created_at":"2015-12-17T00:01:52Z","canonical_url":"https://wefunder.com/chronos#question-3076","answers":[{"id":3079,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:3079","answer":"Thanks for the question Jennifer. In attempt to keep this as brief as possible please responses below to your questions: Are you concerned that the iwatch version 2.0, in conjunction with their ever increasing apps, may disrupt chronos' current advantage as a smartwatch device for every watch? Chronos: No, The apple watch is a platform that has two main disadvantages we solve for: 1. You have to buy into Apple's aesthetic. Whether you love it or hate it, there is only one apple watch. You may be able to change straps but this is not enough to make user's feel the attachment that is shared to a watch such as unique aesthetic, fit, finish, craftsmanship, quality, status, sentiment, etc. Chronos works with any watch, so the user retains all those elements of the watch that are personal to them. 2. Fragmented application ecosystem. There is backlash on how complicated Apple's interaction is and confusing it is to manage applications on your phone and watch. We believe there is no need or want from consumers to have every feature on your phone on your wrist at this point in time. In fact, most of the time this interaction is wrong (think private texts or apps showing up on your wrist during a professional meeting). There are key elements from your phone need immediate attention that Chronos will nudge you on. Chronos helps remove distraction and place hierarchy on your notifications so you know what is worth your time. Anything more in depth usually makes sense on your phone. Once you have to dig and dive into an interaction, its quicker on the phone and has distracted you and your peers enough that you might as well pull the phone out. What will be your competitive advantage when Apple's considerable market share and clout develops a watch that's becomes as appealing as the iPhone Chronos: Mainly we are developing a product for watch wearers (55% of America). This an audience apple will have a hard time breaking into over the next 10+ years. Apple has done Chronos a favor by creating a halo effect for traditional timepieces and we have seen users switch back to traditional as they fall back in love with wearing something on their wrist again and have become frustrated with the apple watch shortcomings. Also, what are your thoughts on the smart wrist strap? Chronos: They effect the look and feel of your timepiece. This is a very important aspect of the watch. Chronos did a large user study and found the average customer we will have wears a watch of an average price of $300. This is where we want to be, this is where high units are (think Michael Kors watch that is the best selling watch in America). At this price point a consumers decision to buy a watch is heavily weighted on the strap. Even if this was not the case, the behavior change and ability to change the strap is no where as convenient as what Chronos offers (simple stick it to the back of your watch). The watch manufacturers' attempts have been mostly a fail from what we have seen. Mainly because they don't specialize in producing this kind of technology and they are altering the look and feel of their watch. For the most part these are also grossly overpriced add-ons to a watch that has limited sales and requires you to buy that one specific watch. Again this is creating fragmentation, where users want unified platforms. To Apple's credit this is why the apple watch does well (relatively), it is based on the iOS platform. Chronos is creating that unified platform for all watches. As Chronos further develops our OEM negotiations, we are allowing watch companies to keep doing what they do well - make beautiful timepieces, while Chronos brings the best wrist interaction to their product.
