The Problem

Traditional Bitcoin wallets provide solutions which are NOT bulletproof, such as:

- A Multisig with the keys scattered across different geolocations

- A Decoy Wallet loaded with small and expendable amount of funds , ready to let it go

Both solutions don’t address the problems of physical attacks and hacks because:

-a physical attacker won’t fall for a decoy wallet containing a small amount of funds shown by the user, especially if the attacker has performed a preliminary research on his target , which is extremely likely for physical attacks.

-likewise, the attacker won’t believe the user is not hiding a second key in his basement, and the user has no plausible deniability to make the attacker change his mind. All of this is very risky and the news are full of physical attacks day in day out: with these ones to be just the known cases worldwide.

Furthermore, an hacker who gains access to the device , thanks to either his skills or, more frequently, due to simple user mistakes, can concretely drain the wallet in no time if no structural friction is in place.

Our Solution

BitVault introduces a time-delay over multisig architecture that:

 1. Stops Hackers in Their Tracks:

  - Even if someone compromises one key, the time-delay feature ensures funds can’t be moved instantly. Furthermore, a secret notification alerts the user that something is happening, leaving to you the necessary time to take action and abort the tx.

 2. Prevents Physical Coercion:

  - A multisig setup ensures no single point of failure, even during a physical attack. The user has nothing to prove to the attacker, given he can visualize the time-delay himself directly on the App. In this scenario the secret notification offsets kidnappings, as the person who receives it will start looking for the user who is now in danger.

 3. Seamlessly Integrates:

  - Works with the most common HWs (Jade, Coldcard, Bitbox, Trezor, Seedsigner etc..)

  - Can be integrated in any other Software and Hardware Wallet or Exchange. Broad range of potential customers !

How It Works

1. Time-Delay Security:

  - Set a customizable delay (2 hours to 15 days) before funds can be moved.

2. Multisig Architecture:

  - Requires multiple keys to authorize any transaction, adding an extra layer of security.

3. Trustless Custody and TXs + Secret Notifications:

  - As soon as the Tx gets loaded a secret notification leaves the wallet, the Tx is not broadcasted yet. After the necessary time as preset on the time-delay passes, the trustless convenience service (fully open source and either self-hosted / managed by bitvault) co-signs the Tx and it gets broadcasted

-The aforementioned procedure, which recalls the security procedures of a physical bank, fully solves the problems of physical attacks and hacks. Moreover, as soon as the BitVault wallet solution becomes the industry standard, from a risk / reward perspective, no attacker will find interesting to attempt the heist , given the structural time-delay over multisig enforced by the Bitcoin’s blockchain.

FAQ

Do I have to be an accredited investor to invest?

No. Wefunder allows you to invest without being an accredited investor. All you have to do is sign up and invest.

How will I make a return on my investment, and when?

Under our Angel Round terms, structured under post-money SAFE notes, the company's valuation stands at $4.5 million. Should we achieve a successful exit in the future, such as through an IPO, merger or acquisition at a value exceeding $4.5 million, you will realize a return on your investment.

What is a SAFE note ? What are the terms of the SAFE ?

A SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity) is an investment contract that allows investors to fund a startup in exchange for future equity in the company.

When a trigger event occurs—such as a priced equity round, acquisition, or IPO—your SAFE investment converts into company shares at a predetermined valuation cap, i.e. $4.5 million in this case.

What's the maximum I am legally allowed to invest?

Through Regulation Crowdfunding everyone can invest at least $2,200. How much you're able to invest above that depends on your net income and net worth. You can see how much you're allowed to invest by entering those two numbers under "Investor Limits" here (once you've created and logged in to a Wefunder account).

While you may be legally able to invest more, your investment may be lowered depending on the interest we receive in this round.

Am I guaranteed to get the amount that I signed up for?

No. If we are oversubscribed, we may not be able to accept all investments and may reduce individual investments - in which case you’ll be refunded for the difference. 

Can I invest if I don’t live in the United States?

With a few exceptions, investments can be accepted from international investors as long as you represent that you are complying with the law in your country. 

The only exceptions are the Canadian provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta which have requested that Wefunder bar their residents from investing on Wefunder’s platform, as well as certain sanctioned countries.

What fees do investors pay?

For payments made by bank ACH, wires, or checks, Wefunder charges investors a transaction fee of 2%, with a minimum of $8 and a max of $100. For credit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, Wefunder charges a 5% fee, with a minimum of $8 and no maximum.

Investors can get their first investment fee-free by completing the welcome sequence when creating their account (www.wefunder.com/welcome) and using their ACH bank account (US banks only) or a wire. Just so you know, this only applies to first investments.

Fees are one-time and are not reoccurring.
